La Talpa Restaurant

La Talpa Restaurant is located in the center of the Sassi of Matera along the main street Via dei Fiorentini, the beating heart of Sasso Barisano. The restaurant is entirely dug into the rock, and its rooms show the distinctive signs of Matera’s millenary rock culture, rooms that were used for different purposes over time until becoming an abandoned dwelling in the second half of the 20th century. In the year 2000 the place was transformed into a cozy restaurant with about 100 seats inside.

In fine weather, from May to September, it hosts its clientele in a large courtyard outside in the extraordinary setting of the Sassi of Matera with suggestive views of the Cathedral.
